Transcode Accelerator is an all-new, free plugin for v7 EVO that speeds up transcoding jobs across multiple EVO systems, giving creative users quicker access to their EVO-generated proxies.
Transcode Accelerator allows customers to scale their operations more easily. As your business grows and you need to process more videos at once, additional EVO servers can be added to let the plug-in handle workload distribution, making it easier to manage demanding large-scale video production projects.
EVO version 7.0.1 provides support for the plug-in. If you’d like to upgrade from EVO v.6, see this article: Can my EVO be upgraded to EVO OS v.7?
This article discusses how to use the Transcode Accelerator plug-in with a multi-EVO transcode accelerator group. Get in touch with SNS today to learn more about Transcode Accelerator and how it can help your team.
Prior to using Transcode Accelerator v.1:
Minimum requirements: Two or more EVOs, each running version 7.0.1.87 or higher.
Notes:
- For best results and optimized performance we strongly recommend you connect with our support team. Additional configuration steps are required by SNS to maximize the plug-in's full potential. Contact us for more information.
- We recommend a direct link (10GbE or higher) between EVOs in your environment.
- Avahi and Slingshot must be enabled on all EVOs in the transcode group.
Using Transcode Accelerator v.1:
If you have multiple EVOs and would like to distribute the transcode workload, download the plug-in and install it by clicking the three-dot menu located at the top right of the Installed plug-ins card within the EVO UI at #/support/os-data. Additional configuration by SNS is strongly recommended for the best results.
Once installed, locate the Transcode Accelerator card at #/splash or navigate to directly to the plug-in using http://evo_ip_address/tca
Log in using the same admin credentials as when accessing EVO Administration.
The Select transcoders card automatically finds other EVOs on your network.
The EVOs on your network will be displayed. If there's a connection issue, click Show all to uncover it, hovering over the icon (to the left of the IP address) reveals additional information.
Select the EVOs you wish to use in your accelerator group (the current EVO appears as This_EVO).
Within the Options card, you'll find the Recurrence feature. Once all the Transcode Accelerator jobs are finished running, this user-configurable feature specifies the number of minutes to wait before running again.
To initiate a recurring multi-EVO transcode accelerator group, click the Enable button. This will immediately start transcode jobs (when the pause period is not active) on the selected EVOs, sharing the intensive workload of transcoding across multiple EVO servers in a workgroup. Once running there’s normally no need for additional configuration.
Finally, the Status and logs card displays the transcode job status (total time running), share name, current media file(s) being processed, number of jobs queued, and additional logging information.
When the Enable button is pressed, the Disable button replaces it. Once finished processing the queue, clicking this will turn off the schedule and cancel all future runs.
Additional Notes
Enable Button
Pressing the enable button (only available if the scheduler is disabled) will immediately start transcoding jobs. The accelerator group will be scheduled to run again at the recurrence value (in minutes).
Disable Button
Pressing the disable button (only available when the scheduler is enabled) will disable the scheduler and cancel the accelerator group. Transcode jobs already in progress will not be canceled until after they’ve finished.
Administrator Credentials
Transcode Accelerator assumes every EVO in the accelerator group has the same admin username and password as the EVO being used to configure the plug-in.
Duplicate EVO Entries
It’s possible that a single EVO will show up more than once in the list. This occurs if an EVO has more than one IP address visible to the EVO being used to configure the plug-in. Only one IP from each EVO should be chosen, and it is left up to the user to choose the IP with the fastest connection.
Presets
Transcode Accelerator assumes media and edit proxy presets on every EVO in the accelerator group matches the presets on the EVO being used to configure the plug-in.
