To our valued SNS customers and partners,
Avid has announced a change in how Media Composer handles third-party storage environments. Starting with the release of Media Composer 2026.8, Avid has stated that collaborative features on non-NEXIS storage—including bin-sharing and bin-locking—will require a Media Composer Enterprise license.
To ensure uninterrupted service and project integrity, SNS strongly recommends that you do not upgrade your Media Composer software at this time.
Your Current Workflow is Safe
First and foremost, there is no pressing need to update. SNS shared storage will continue to provide flawless Avid emulation, bin-sharing, and bin-locking on Media Composer 2025.12 and earlier. Because 2025.12 is an Avid Long-Term Maintenance (LTM) release, it provides a highly stable, fully supported platform for your mission-critical environments. Best practice dictates avoiding software updates until they are fully vetted, and staying on 2025.12 is our official advice today.
What You Should Do:
- Stay on 2025.12 (or earlier): Do not upgrade to Media Composer 2026.8. Upgrading prematurely under your current license tier will break collaborative Avid workflows for EVO (unless you are using Avid Nexis alongside EVO).
- Wait for Official Guidance: We are actively working with Avid to verify compatibility and outline a secure path forward for those who eventually transition to the Enterprise tier.
- Follow Avid's press releases: Watch for an announcement about Media Composer Enterprise becoming available before deciding if/when to move to that license.
- Contact Us Before Upgrading: If you have an absolute facility requirement to upgrade beyond 2025.12 right now, please consult with SNS prior to updating so we can help you navigate all options for a successful shared workflow.
- Your environment’s stability is our top priority. We will provide further information and verified workflow migration paths as soon as they become available.
