At some point a change may need to be made to the existing EVO connectivity, whether it's replacing optical Ethernet for twisted pair (copper) Ethernet, or vice versa, or replacing an adapter with one that offers more ports.
Because each Ethernet port is registered to the system using hardware-specific information, preserving the authorization and correct port enumeration requires some extra consideration.
If the adapters have already been swapped, our support team can quickly correct the hardware registration and port assignments in a remote session, which will require an EVO reboot.
Without our remote assistance, here are the steps to ensure the new ports are authorized and enumerated correctly:
-
Navigate to the Hardware Activation page and deactivate the ports you'll be removing.
-
Shut down EVO from System page or with a quick tap of the power button.
-
Pull the power cables and press the power button to discharge the system.
-
Remove the four screws in the lid at the top of the chassis, the screw on each side of the lid, and loosen the thumbscrew at the rear of the lid to slide it back and then up off the chassis.
-
Ensure you're grounded, and remove the PCIe adapter(s).
-
Return power to the EVO, and tap the power button to start it up.
-
Once available, log in to the web administration and navigate to the Hardware Activation page, and then remove the deactivated adapters from the "Unregister port" column.
-
Shut the EVO down again, pull power, discharge system.
-
Install the new adapter(s).
-
Authorize and activate the new ports at the Hardware Activation page.
