Overview & General Safety
Overview
Keeping your EVO system up to date ensures you have access to the latest features, security enhancements, and performance optimizations. This article serves as the starting point for upgrading your system. Because the upgrade path depends on your current software version, you may need to complete intermediate steps or follow specific instructions suited to your system’s starting point.
Important Safety & Disk Isolation Information
We take data integrity seriously and design EVO updates with multiple safeguards to protect your work:
- EVO update routines execute exclusively on the system (OS) drive. Your media, storage pools, and data drives are completely isolated during the software update process.
- Each update package includes automated pre-checks to verify system health and compatibility before applying changes.
Planning & Pre-requisites
While updates are engineered to be safe and seamless, standard system maintenance practices always apply:
- Schedule maintenance downtime. Plan your upgrade during a scheduled maintenance window when no active client connections, file transfers, or critical jobs are running, and to allow sufficient time for several reboots.
- Back up your data. As a best practice for any system maintenance, always verify that you have a current, valid backup of critical data and system configurations prior to starting the update process.
Before beginning an update, please note the following operational guidelines:
- Certain EVO releases require specific hardware revisions or software authorization keys, and include built-in validation checks. Attempting an update to an unsupported version will not damage your system or data; the installer will simply generate an informative feedback message and halt the process. If an update does not complete as expected, it is often due to an unmet prerequisite or version dependency. If an update fails a pre-check or encounters an unexpected error, contact SNS Technical Support with your system serial number and current logs for assistance.
- Review all steps for each relevant version before beginning any update.
- If your system is currently running a version prior to v7.x, you must complete the pre-requisite upgrade path before proceeding with current builds.
Pre-Upgrade Checklist
Before beginning any update, verify the following:
- Current backups are available.
- ShareBrowser/Slingshot database backups are downloaded.
- All required update packages are downloaded.
- If EVO hosts a Resolve database, it must be exported to a Resolve Studio workstation before beginning an update. The database can be reimported to EVO once updates are complete.
- If any plugins are installed, note their configuration.
- Uninstall all plugins.
- Ensure all background jobs and automation tasks have finished or are stopped.
- Advise all users to save their work and recommend they disconnect active mounts. Starting with a reboot is recommended to ensure there are no latent or unobserved concerns before committing to upgrade, and effectively ensures no immediate user activity.

General Post-Upgrade Steps
Once the update completes:
- Log in to the administrative interface and confirm the version number reflects the new build
- Confirm Slingshot/ShareBrowser configurations if applicable
- Update ShareBrowser client workstations to match the server
- Reconnect client workstations and test share access
- Install plugins/restore Resolve database if applicable
