If you find that an EVO share has been completely filled by users, it may not be possible for a user to simply delete files to free up space, since these file operations could require added writes of their own, with no space available to perform them.
In that case, the fastest way to reclaim some space is to disable and empty the share's recycle bin.
Each EVO NAS share has its own recycle bin enabled by default (as of version 6), and turning this off will immediately allow for delete operations. It's also possible to selectively delete content from the recycle bin.
To temporarily disable and empty the recycle bin for a share so content can be immediately deleted
- Open EVO's administration page in a web browser and log in as the admin user
- Navigate to EVO's NAS & Project Sharing page
- Click Edit next to the share
- Uncheck the box next to E
- Click Save
- Click OK to confirm you'd like to empty the recycle bin when prompted
- Click Edit again to enable the recycle bin for the share
Don't forget to enable the recycle bin after freeing up space!
To selectively delete content if there's concern about emptying the entire bin
- Open EVO's web interface and log in as admin or a user
- If logged in as admin, follow the link at the bottom of the NAS & Project Sharing page or append /trashBrowser.html to EVO's IP address
- If logged in as a user, just click the Slingshot menu item
- This page may take some time to load, especially with a full file system!
- Select the share from the dropdown menu, and the content to remove
- Click Permanently Delete Selected Files
Note: The default retention time for files in recycle can also be adjusted at the System > Advanced page.
